WOW! Taking a break from blogging so I could finish up my BPC class sure put me behind on sharing the projects I was also working on. These are all projects I created for Lily Bee! I hope you don't mind me playing catch up and getting these all out there at once!

I shared the cover of this album at Studio Calico last week and had quite a few request for a tutorial on how I did the paint. This album is actually part of the What Matters Most class I am teaching at Big Picture Classes, but I thought it would be fun to share a little bit of the class here with you all so you can see a sneak! Of course the class is way more than just this one album, it's way more than just about creating something...it's about finding happiness and focusing on what matters most...creating stuff is just the fun part!
So here's the album I shared.
And here's the little tutorial on how to achieve the real looking wood colors. Honestly, I just started playing and crossed my fingers something cool would come out of it. I had one journal and one shot at making it work. I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. It's really looks like wood, especially in person!
Step 1: Begin by painting the front and the back of your cover with gesso to prime the surface. I used a foam brush for all of my painting with the exception of the crackle paint. I didn’t rinse my brush in between coats, not even for the application of the Mod Podge at the end. This helped everything blend together more evenly.
Step 2: After the gesso is dry, apply a layer of off-white acrylic paint. Then when that is dry add a layer of distress crackle paint over the top.
Step 3: Open the top of the Warm Calico mist and drip a few drops onto the cover (be sure you are doing this to both the top of the front cover and the back of the back cover each time). Then, using the foam brush, spread the mist back and forth with streaks that go with the grain of the wood. Don’t go up and down.
Step 4: Now add some drops of the Classic Calico mist in a different spot on your cover and spread back and forth with the foam brush. Repeat this step several times by alternating back and forth between the two mist colors until you get the desired wood grain effect.

Have you ever heard the saying - you teach best what you most need to learn...
Well that's exactly what this class was for me. I was at a point in my life where I wasn't feeling present. I was tired of always just saying 'I'm tired'. I had hit a point where I was just so busy doing all the busy things I had to do that I wasn't able to fully enjoy all the things that matter most to me. I wanted to slow down so I could enjoy all the little things in my life instead of feeling like they are just going by in a blur, unnoticed.
I put this class together so I could step back and learn to appreciate all the things that are important to me and to find ways to be able to change my life so I could have more time to focus on them.
I have to be honest with you. After I finished the content of this class and started making the changes I needed to make and started truly focusing on the things in my life that matter most...I've been so much happier. I wake up with more energy because I feel like I spent the day before to the fullest. My relationships are better. My outlook is better. I don't really know how to explain it to get it across as impactfully as it feels, but life truly feels so much happier!
I am so glad I put this class together, even if just for myself! I really hope you will join me on this journey to happiness and take the time in your life to appreciate and focus on the things that matter most to you!!
I also had fun trying something new for me. I put together a kit for this class. I figured if I'm going to be talking about freeing up your time and all that, then it would be a good idea to have a pre-designed kit that makes it easier for you to complete the assignments. And, I'm selling it for pretty cheaped compared to what it would cost to buy it all seperately.
In the class we will be making 2 mini albums and 2 layouts, and the kit I put together is everything (well minus cardstock and paint/mist/thread type supplies) I used to create my projects. The kit retails for $46.99, but I'm selling it for $39.50!! I only ordered a small number of supplies to begin with to see how it goes, but if it goes well I am open to ordering more.

I have some handmade tags to share with you today. They are quick to make but they add so much to the gift you can put them on!
To make these tags begin by punching out a bunch of christmas trees and then score them in half.
Then using the new Glue Arts Perma Tac cartridge glue two sides of the tree's together so you get a 3D effect. I glued together 6 trees. Don't glue the first and the last tree together.
Using Glue Arts Ribbon Adhesive layer on a couple rows of ribbon to bottom of your tag.
Then cut out a tag from some patterned paper. Type up some 'to' and 'from' labels and add them to your tag. Using a Glue Arts Micro Adhesive square pop on a silver snowflake to serve as the topper of the tree.
Then using the Perma Tac Adhesive cartridge and applicator adhere a tree to the center of each tag. For a finishing touch run it through your sewing machine and stitch on a border.
